Established in 1981, Current Immunology, originally Shanghai Journal of Immunology, is the first journal in China specialized in immunology. The first Editor-in-Chief Dr. He Yu is a renowned immunologist and microbiologist graduated from Harvard University and the founding Director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology. Current Immunology is a peer-reviewed journal published bimonthly and co-sponsored by Shanghai Society for Immunology and Shanghai Institute of Immunology. The journal is also supervised by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.

In the course of its over 40-year history, Current Immunology has been sponsored and supported by generations of immunologists and microbiologists. Its past Editors-in-Chiefs include Dr. Deyuan Lu, former chairman of Professional Board of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Chinese Society for Microbiology, former vice president of Shanghai Society for Microbiology; Dr. Kuangyen Chou, former vice president of Chinese Society for Immunology and former president of Shanghai Society for Immunology; Dr. Feiqing Lin of Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University; Dr. Xin Yao of Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dr. Tianxing Ye of Naval Medical University. The current Co-Editors-in-Chiefs are Dr. Bing Su, Director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology and Chinese “One Thousand Plan” Scholar, and Dr. Kuangyen Chou. Dr. Liming Lu serves as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Current Immunology is dedicated to publish high-quality research papers peer reviewed by a pool of over 300 experts from different fields of biomedicine.

Since its establishment, the journal’s mission has been to serve the Chinese immunology community to publish papers in all areas of immunology. The Current Immunology’s scope includes basic immunology, clinical immunology, immunological techniques and the latest immunological advances. The journal also regularly invites a lot renowned scholars specialized in immunology and related fields to contribute to“Experts Review”and“Forum for Young Scholars”columns. Up to now, Current Immunology has published more than 6 000 articles with overall downloads and citations of 730 995 and 29 555, respectively. The complex impact factor of the journal is 0.859 and the aggregate impact factor 0.747. Current Immunology is indexed by Chinese literature databases such as Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), A Guide to the Core Journals of China (Peking University Library), China Natural Science Core Journals, China Biomedicine Core Journals, and China Basic Medicine Core Journals. In addition, the overall hits of transnational articles and SCI percentage of third-party exhibiting websites in TrendMD database (a well-known international academic spreading tool) reach 2 410, with 72.34% from the United States and amounts to 70.94%, with the relevant science journal average of 50%, making Current Immunology influential to experts worldwide.

Current Immunology is dedicated to provide a platform for the Chinese immunology community to communicate and exchange ideas in this rapidly advancing field. Our editorial team is committed to ensure fair editorial decision, rapid peer-review process and speedy publication to original researches in immunology. Already, we have improved our service by establishing an online submission system (Magtech Journalx 2.0), re-organizing the editorial board and reviewer pool, and actively inviting experts to contribute high-quality manuscripts. We are also comprehensively updating the format of the journal by opening new columns, maintaining a WeChat official account to encourage communication between authors and readers and providing bilingual abstracts of published papers to enhance internationalization. We sincerely hope that our efforts have laid the foundation for the continuous development of immunology in China.
